Its early in the morning on April 29th 2020.
Under normal circumstances, I would be using this day as my first day back in the pool after competing at USMS nationals. I would have spent the last two days reflecting on my performances and what things I wanted to accomplish for the 2020-2021 season.
However, we are not in normal times. We are in the middle of a global health pandemic. All parts of society are closed.
I haven’t swam since March 12th. In the last 6 weeks the importance of swimming and proving something to myself has not been as important as I once held.
I have taken the time to realign my priorities to our current situation: Homeschooling, home projects, and health.
With more time for reflection, I have come to a few realizations:
- I held onto swimming competitively as a way to prove something missing in my life.
- I am okay with not swimming or competing now and its good because it allows me to free up energy to find what I missing from my life right now.
- When I go back to the pool, I can change my reason why I swim.
- How to cope with trying to get back in and train again.
