I have a long term goal…

I want to swim :49 seconds in the 100 freestyle at age 49. Having been a sub :50 second 100 freestyler just a few times in college, I am interested in seeing if I can reach the time again.

This all started 11 years ago. When I was a young assistant swim coach at Florida A&M Ian Lee (head coach at the time) and I would  share stories and thoughts about competitive swimming. Dara Torres was the talk of the time as she qualified for her 5th Olympics at 41 years old. Somehow the idea of a 40 something Olympian winning a medal would be an awesome feat.

That conversation turned into what I wanted to do when I got to middle age. With unfulfilled goals on how far I can go, I am excited about pursuing this goal.

Something else that is a factor is aging. I am curious to know what changes to training will need to be made as i get closer to 40,45 and 50.
